7 Petty (But Anonymous) Cards for When You Can't Say It to Their Face

7 Petty (But Anonymous) Cards for When You Can't Say It to Their Face

Not every wrong deserves a confrontation. Half the time a confrontation is exactly what the other person wants. They get to explain themselves, look a little wounded, and walk away with a story where they somehow come out ahead. You get to lie awake replaying what you should have said.

So skip the confrontation. Say the thing, spell it correctly, seal it in an envelope and leave your name completely out of it. Here are seven situations that have earned exactly that.

1. The coworker who presented your work as theirs

You built the deck. You ran the numbers at 11pm with a cold burrito. Then you sat in the meeting and watched them take the compliments, nodding like someone who has ever opened a spreadsheet. HR makes it a process. Saying nothing makes it a pattern.

The For You. Fuck Off. card has little sketched flowers on the front and "This is the nicest way I could say fuck off" on the inside. Charming enough to open at a desk. Clear enough that they will think about it all afternoon.

2. The ex who still has your waffle iron

It has been four months. Every text goes unanswered, yet somehow they have the energy to post brunch photos. You don't want them back. You want your waffle iron back, and failing that, the last word.

The Logan Roy Energy card is a screaming man on the front and two words inside. No speech. No follow-up. One card, one envelope, then you get on with your life and buy a better waffle iron.

3. The neighbor with opinions about your whole life

The note about trash day. The comment about your lawn height. The doorbell camera that is pointed suspiciously at your driveway and not theirs. You have been gracious about all of it. Award-winning, frankly.

The Mind Your Fucking Business card looks like a friendly reminder from the outside. It is not a friendly reminder. For the daytime version, a garden flag handles it from the front yard.

4. The person who parks across two spots every single day

The two-spot straddler. The one whose license plate you now recognize on sight, and whose angle suggests they parked by feel. You have climbed in through the passenger side enough times to qualify as a gymnast.

This one doesn't need the mail. A Fuck You Very Much toothpick flag tucked under the wiper says it in the moment, and we wrote a whole post on why you keep a pack in the glove box.

5. The friend whose week went completely sideways

Everyone around them is using the soft voice. The inspirational texts are piling up. What they actually need is one person willing to say the blunt, slightly unhinged version out loud.

The Everything Happens for a Reason card starts sincere and ends with "sometimes the reason is just: fuck you." Sign it or don't. Either way, they will laugh alone in their kitchen, which is the whole point.

6. The group chat member who ruins everything

Reads every message, answers none of them. Shows up three days late with a hot take. Somehow still has opinions about where brunch is. Everyone knows who it is, and nobody has said a word, because saying it makes it real.

The No Special Occasion card says "Just felt like saying fuck this" and nothing else. It is not technically about them. They will know.

7. When it's nobody in particular

Sometimes it isn't one person. It is the customer service call, the line cutter, the week, the general state of things. You just need to say it into the void, and the void has a mailing address now.

With the holidays coming, the Very Happy Holiday card covers the season and whoever in it has earned a little honesty.

How to pull it off

Good petty has no fingerprints. No handwriting they would recognize, no return address, no receipt left on the counter. Our anonymous card service handles that part: pick the card, pick the line, give us the address, and it arrives looking like it came from nowhere in particular. Because it did.

Stuck on the wording? The Fuck Off Generator takes about thirty seconds and saves you from drafting something at midnight with your thumbs shaking.

No return address. No regrets.
